The Sunshine Coast Falcons were not able to match the might of the Redcliffe Dolphins on Saturday afternoon, with the away side running away with the game in the second half to post a 28-8 win at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
The Dolphins were up 10-4 at halftime and were helped by an early try from Daniel Bridge; but coach Adam Mogg was hoping his side would improve in the second half to shake off the challenge presented by their opposition.
“We had a good start to the game, we were sloppy in patches and that opened the door for the Falcons; but we were unlucky to not get the try at the end of the first half,” Mogg said.
“At halftime we addressed things the boys should have been doing in the second half and how they needed to have better control of the game.
“As a result, the second half was a lot better, they were composed and stuck to our game plan.”
Redcliffe were determined to secure this win after they went down in a tough loss by one point to rivals Wynnum Manly Seagulls last week.
“The effort was there, we just did not execute our plays properly and we were sloppy in patches which allowed the Seagulls back into the game,” Mogg said of the loss.
“We do not like to lose games, but especially when those games are played in front of our home crowd.
“We have to work hard and make sure that does not happen again.”
This coming weekend is the Men of League / NRL Foundation round and the Dolphins will host the PNG Hunters on Sunday at 1.40pm at Dolphin Park in what will also be the TV game.
“PNG are very competitive and consistently run hard, we will need to be at our best for the full 80 minutes to come away with a win this weekend,” Mogg said.
“We need to keep improving and focus on the control of the game.
“We have a strong following here in Redcliffe and since this is our home game we will have to make sure we do not let our fans down.”
With the finals fast approaching, Mogg thinks his side has improved as the season has progressed and they are heading in the right direction.
“We need to keep on improving, controlling the game, defending well and sticking to our game plans,” Mogg said.
The Sunshine Coast Falcons will travel to Bishop Park for their clash against the Norths Devils on Sunday at 3pm to complete the Round 19.
