Falcons swoop in second half to down Bears
By QRL Media
The Sunshine Coast Falcons put in a stunning second half performance to overhaul the Burleigh Bears in their Round 3 match on Saturday and claim a 36-14 win.
The Falcons – who were down 14-12 at the halftime break – held the Bears scoreless in the last half of the match and ran in four tries of their own, with Melbourne Storm contracted-winger Tony Tumusa bagging a hat-trick for the match.
Things started well for the Bears who raced out to their early 14-0 lead with a try to fullback Tyler Chadburn and a double to winger Kurtis Rowe within the 20 minutes.
With plenty of time on the clock and the team seemingly in a good rhythm, they appeared destined to continue the good form that had seen them win their first two games to sit atop the Intrust Super Cup ladder.
However, after letting the Falcons get within two points at the break – the Bears were denied any positive momentum and were unable to match the intensity of the Falcons who were looking to bounce back from Round 2’s disappointing loss to the Tigers.
Burleigh were also hindered by a depleted bench, with co-captain Jamie Dowling (concussion), Dave Hala (chest) and Matt Srama (knee) all unable to finish the match, leaving them with just one reserve early in the second half.
Next weekend, the Bears will be at home once more against the Mackay Cutters – while the Sunshine Coast Falcons will host the undefeated PNG Hunters.
