Biography

Since his debut for the Brisbane Broncos as a teenage prop forward, Thomas Flegler’s drive and endurance has seen him flourish in his chosen sport.

A product of the Tully Tigers, Flegler played with Broncos affiliate club, Souths Logan Magpies in 2018 and thrived under the coaching of the experienced Jon Buchanan, going on to win selection for Queensland Under 20s and the Junior Kangaroos. Queensland, coached by Justin Hodges, defeated New South Wales 30-12, with another Tully product, halfback, Jake Clifford the player of the match.

When you dream of things like this, you think it’s out of reach. But to be here is pretty awesome.

Thomas Flegler FOG #221

Flegler came off the bench in the Junior Kangaroos' 40-24 win over the Junior Kiwis in Auckland, in October. He made his NRL debut, off the bench, for Brisbane in Round 1 of the 2019 season and played 23 games in his debut season, including Week 1 of the finals.

He shared the club's Rookie of the Year award with his close mate, Pat Carrigan.

Flegler played 13 matches in 2020 and 20 in 2021, when he made his State of Origin debut in Game III, on the Gold Coast, coming off the bench in Queensland's 20-18 win.

Described by Maroons veteran Felise Kaufusi (FOG #195) as “young and fiery,” Flegler is the latest in a proud line of Brisbane Bronco enforcers to make the step up to Maroon status.

'I loved every second of it' - Flegler

With his size and aggression, Flegler has established himself as a middle-forward workhorse.

Raised on a banana farm near Tully, Flegler has had to overcome a number of setbacks, including two shoulder reconstructions. His hero as a youngster was Broncos forward, Corey Parker.

After missing selection for the 2022 State of Origin series, Flegler was recalled to the Maroons for the first two games of the 2023 series, before missing Game III due to a foot injury.

Flegler and fellow Maroons and Brisbane forward Pat Carrigan formed a lethal one-two punch combination in the middle, helping Queensland secure back-to-back series wins, whilst also taking the Broncos all the way to the NRL Grand Final.

The Broncos forward finished a stellar season announcing he would be signing with fellow Queensland based club the Dolphins from 2024. Flegler was also selected to make his international debut for the Kangaroos in the Pacific Championships.
