Queensland rugby league great Greg Inglis and former Norths Devils premiership-winning coach Dave Elliott will play key roles in the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons’ 2025 State of Origin campaign.
Inglis and Elliott will assist head coach Tahnee Norris in the Maroons’ quest to retain the Origin shield following last year’s historic 2-1 series victory.
With last year’s assistants Nathan Cross and Brett O’Farrell accepting new positions with St George Illawarra Dragons and North Queensland Cowboys respectively, Norris has moved swiftly to lock in her new staff.
Meg Ward, the 2024 BMD Premiership coach of the year, is also back for another campaign in maroon colours.
“I’m looking forward to working with both Greg and Dave, and with Meg returning as well, we have a really experienced group of coaches who also understand what this jersey means to our players and people,” Norris said.
Inglis is one of Queensland’s most decorated Origin players, having scored 18 tries in 32 matches for his beloved Maroons.
“He’s a legend of the game,” Norris said.
“Greg’s always been an advocate for women’s rugby league.”
“He’s previously been around our camps as a mentor, so to have the opportunity to put him on full time this year is going to be a great asset for us.
“The knowledge that he brings is just second to none. I know our outside backs in particular will learn a lot from him.”
Elliott joins the Maroons following a lengthy involvement in QRL statewide competitions with the Townsville Blackhawks, Mackay Cutters and the Norths Devils.
“The proof in the pudding with the Hostplus Cup from last year and the NRL State Championship that he won with the Devils,” Norris said.
“I’m excited for him to be involved in this level of the women’s game for the first time.
“He has been around a long time in the Hostplus Cup, plus he’s had experience working with NRL teams as well.
“That experience, and the knowledge he will be able to share with our players, is going to be invaluable for us.”
