The wins keep coming for the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons following their historic State of Origin series victory earlier this year, and it’s all thanks to one of the biggest supporters of rugby league in Queensland.
When the Maroons take the field for their crucial series opener against the New South Wales Sky Blues next year, they will do so with the support of XXXX.
The XXXX logo is as equally synonymous with rugby league as it is with Queensland, with XXXX having backed the QRL and the Maroons for 34 years.
And now that iconic logo will be proudly displayed on the women’s Maroons jersey for the first time.
Lion Australia managing director James Brindley said “XXXX has proudly supported the female Maroons team since its inception".
"To now be seeing our logo on their jerseys as a sponsor is a moment we’re excited to celebrate," Brindley said.
"It’s crucial that both the men's and women’s teams receive the recognition and backing they deserve. We’re committed to the game, and we truly care about its future. We give a XXXX about the footy."
The commitment from XXXX will lead a groundswell of support for the Maroons, who famously came from behind to beat the Sky Blues in the first ever women’s three match series in 2024.
Game I of next year’s series will be played at Suncorp Stadium, the venue that set a then record crowd for a standalone women’s Origin match last May.
The significance of the occasion is not lost on QRL chief executive officer Ben Ikin.
“Picture this … the spiritual home of rugby league in Queensland, hosting the Maroons for the first time since the team’s tenacious efforts in Newcastle and Townsville,” Ikin said.
“There were some unforgettable moments in those games, and come May 1 in Brisbane, I’m sure we’ll see many more unfold.
“Adding to the occasion will be the sight of XXXX on our players’ sleeves. It’s great to have an iconic brand part of such a special moment. This investment from XXXX is significant and continues to make a real difference at every level of the game.”
