Carrigan Wins Paul Morgan Medal, Robinson NRLW Player of Year

Lock Pat Carrigan has won his second Paul Morgan Medal as Brisbane Broncos’ NRL Player of the Year, while winger Julia Robinson has been crowned NRLW Player of the Year for 2024.

Carrigan, who shared the Medal with Payne Haas in 2020, won it in his own right this season with 86 votes from coaches and players, to finish well ahead of Selwyn Cobbo (50), Kotoni Staggs (48), Payne Haas (32), Reece Walsh (26), Corey Jensen (23) and Kobe Hetherington (22).

The 26-year-old was a mainstay for the Broncos across 22 appearances in 2024, averaging 170 running metres (64 metres post contact) from 14 hit ups per game as well as 38 tackles at 94 per cent efficiency.

He also recorded 32 tackle busts and 29 offloads across the season, which also saw him collect another two awards at tonight’s Presentation Dinner at the Ballroom at The Star.

Carrigan also won the Shane Webcke Award for Best Forward as well as the Gary Balkin Award for Players’ Player on an incredible evening for the Kangaroos and Maroons star who posted his 100th game for the Broncos in Round 21.

For Brisbane’s NRLW team, Broncos “Original” Julia Robinson was a much-deserved winner of the Player of the Year award after an outstanding season.

The power-running winger collected 49 points to blitz the judging ahead of Keilee Joseph (26), Hayley Maddick (19), Mele Hufanga (17), Romy Teitzel (15) and Chelsea Lenarduzzi (11).

Robinson proved a non-stop highlights package across the 2024 season, scoring 9 tries in 10 games on top of averaging a staggering 223 running metres per game, plus 67 tackle breaks, 14 line breaks and two try assists.

The Jillaroo finisher was the recipient of the Best Back Award, Most Consistent Award and the Player’s Player on a huge night  for the 26-year-old who was named in the NRLW Dally M Team Of The Year last week.

Other award recipients for the NRLW squad were Stacey Waaka for Rookie Of The Year, Keilee Joseph for Best Froward, and Chelsea Lenarduzzi for Play Of The Year for her match-winning try against the Sharks in Round 8.

For the NRL team, Blake Mozer won Rookie Of The Year while Kotoni Staggs received the Allan Langer Award for Best Back.

The other two major NRL awards of the night went to Corey Jensen for the Kevin Walters Most Consistent Award, and Jesse Arthars for Wally Lewis Play of the Year for his fist half try against the Storm in Round 5.

The Broncos Club Person of the Year was shared between two of the club's hardest working behind-the-scenes staff, Head of Marketing, Game Day & Digital, Shantelle Page and Head of Consumer Business Belinda Findlay.
