Everything you need to know: XXXX Queensland City v Country

It's set to be a massive occasion when two XXXX City v Country matches take place on Sunday as part of QRL Grand Final Day, presented by Ford.

For those who can't make it to Kayo Stadium to cheer on their region, both the women's and men's game will be available to watch live and free on Qplus.tv.

The teams are packed with the best A grade community rugby league players in Queensland, selected from regional carnivals the XXXX Chair's Challenge (QRL South East, City) and the XXXX Foley Shield (QRL North) and XXXX 47th Battalion (QRL Central, both Country), with each team featuring a handful of players with BMD Premiership and Hostplus Cup experience from this year.

While remarkably Country Men looks set to play the same side named in July, coaches of the other three sides have been forced into a few changes due to suspension and injury.

See below what the coaches have said leading into Sunday, and who is set to be lining up come kick-off.

Country coach John Buttigieg: "We've touched base in the last couple of months and we've got everything ready to go and train to put into play. I'm pretty excited, I think the team that we've got there is a pretty handy team and I'm interested to see how it goes and put it into play. The skill level of the girls is right up there and for some of them being able to play that consistent footy and have the opportunity to go to the next level, you can see there's a lot of development happening in a lot of areas, which is good to see. I think it's been pretty vital having a few catch-ups online and getting to know each other a bit, and I think we've been able to pick a couple of girls from each team, so some of them know each other a little bit and are quite familiar having played against each other, but it's still going to be good to bring the team together and execute a game plan. I'd like to see a bit of open play footy, I'd like to see the girls play what's in front of them instead of having too much structure and we've got some girls with a bit of toe about them, so I'd like to see them in some open space and see how it goes."

City Women coach Roy Leoni: "I think everyone's pretty excited. It has been a bit of a gap between now and when they played the carnival, but they're excited to put their jersey on and represent City at another level they may not have played before. We've got a mix of youth and experience. The most exciting thing is the youth in that squad, a lot of 18, 19, 20-year-olds in their first or second of league playing well, with more experienced players like Patrice Chambers, Crys Tamarua and Tarnisha Lyons who've played at higher levels. We'll keep it pretty simple. We'll just work on what we can do, won't focus too much on Country, just put the focus on ourselves and put our best foot forward. The girls are excited for that opportunity to have eyes on them, especially with the expansion of the BMD Premiership and NRLW next year, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few of these girls push into BMD next year and even more might get a chance in an NRLW squad, so I think that's the most exciting part for them."

Country coach Col Speed: "It's going to be great to work with some gifted athletes and really good people who are proud of the jersey they're wearing and representing their families and communities and who want to make the most of the opportunity. We've been in constant touch, reminding them of their roles and what we're looking for and the enthusiasm on the other end of the phone answers the questions for us, so they're biting at the bit and they can't wait. We need to make sure the training sessions we get are quality and off the field we spent time together as well. We have Billy Johnstone coming in on Friday and it will be a nice wake-up call and they can gel pretty quickly and I think Billy can achieve that. This could be the next stepping stone for them in their careers or they may just go out there and enjoy the occasion and make the most of it. Defence will be a massive key, the mateship we'll have to build in 48 hours and the ad-lib footy we've got on our edges and just our ability to play eyes-up rather than play structured footy will be the key with our strike weapons, and our bench is going to make a massive impact."

City Men coach Kevin Neighbour: "Our staff have always seen this as an opportunity for people to put themselves forward on the last day of the year, which is a brilliant concept and it's a good idea to bring it back in Queensland for the guys at a level below Hostplus Cup to showcase what they're capable of. We're fortunate we've been able to meet this week prior to Saturday (camp) and we've been monitoring the guys right since we selected the initial squad. We're really happy some of the lads have been playing in the final weeks. That has caused some headaches as some had become suspended, or signed NRL contracts, but we've just looked at who's next to come into that position and we've been quite fortunate some of the guys since playing in the XXXX Chair's Challenge have gone on to play Cup and made our ability to put the next person in a lot easier. It's not necessarily about how they're going to play, it's just playing for each other at the weekend, and that's the qualities we looked for at the XXXX Chair's Challenge. There was lots of good, competitive stuff and that's what it's about, competing for your mate, really, and putting your best foot forward. It's very important and more and more (Cup) clubs have alliances with community clubs... and it's a way to go up and down. Some players develop a bit later too, so they need to play maybe a season of BRL before you can judge them as an adult. It's a big stage, you're going to be playing before the final where you know there are guys on both teams who have played BRL this year."
