BRL lowdown: Redcliffe and Wynnum Manly battle to make big dance

Redcliffe Dolphins and Wynnum Manly Juniors will battle for a spot in the BRL Premier A Grade grand final on Saturday.

West Brisbane have advanced to the grand final after a clinical display against Redcliffe in the major semi-final, winning 40-14.

It will be their third appearance in four years after winning the title in 2022 against the Seagulls, 36-16; they will have the week off to prepare for September 14 big dance at Totally Workwear Stadium.

Wynnum Manly Juniors won their seventh straight game to head to Kayo Stadium to take on Redcliffe in the preliminary final on Saturday at 2.30pm.

The Dolphins were no match for the minor premiers and will need to regroup against the defending premiers.

The Seagulls have won four premierships since the 2015 restart to the BRL competition. Redcliffe won the title in 2016 in extra time against the Jets with a golden point to John Bradley. This could also go to extra time.

Both sides are littered with talent and game changers. Most critics believe the battle is won in the front row. However, this will be won by the back row; the edge players have speed and ball skills and love dominating the middle third of the field.

Redcliffe have the mobility of Levi Wilson, Braith Major and Lewis Symonds and the Juniors have the size and quick play-the-ball that must be addressed.  Seagulls skipper James Robinson, Nathan Ward and Kelepi Faukafa have played most of the season together and will be a ‘Phinfull for the home side.

The backs will reap the benefits of the trio that comes out on top.

Golden point? Probably.

All of the grand finals are set down for Saturday, September 14 at Totally Workwear Stadium.
