BRL lowdown Round 17: Sneaky Seagulls stalking finals footy

Wynnum Manly Juniors' title defence is heating up with the Seagulls entering the top five for the first time with just two rounds of Brisbane Rugby League Premier A Grade to come.

Valleys (18) have found themselves outside the top five and will need to take the two points when they take on Normanby at 3pm Saturday at Bert St Claire Oval.

The Diehards posted 36 points last week and still went down to the Panthers in a carbon copy of round seven.

The Hounds are still licking their wounds after the Pride's 98-4 mauling last week and will be out to cause headaches for the visitor.

Normanby have been cruelled by injuries at both club level and to their feeder club Souths Logan Magpies.

Souths Juniors will host second placed Beenleigh at Brandon Park at 3pm.

Beenleigh are equal second but a better for-and-against has them higher.

The Pride are the talk of the competition after defeating Wests two weeks ago and then posting the highest score for the season.

Souths have had their moments in 2024 but have not been able to reproduce it week in, week out.

The Maggies will be out to cause late winter pain and upset the Pride's plans for a home semi-final in week one.

Redcliffe will have a battle on their hands at Kayo Stadium, where they will clash with Wests from 3pm.

The Panthers leaked 36 points last week, but it has been a mainstay for them to still come out on top after having big points put on them.

Redcliffe ended Bulimba's campaign and will take that momentum into Round 17.

Redcliffe are equal second, however a loss could have them outside the five.

The Panthers are minor premiers and will get a bye first week of finals. With two rounds remaining they will look to address their defence that has let 116 points in over the past three rounds.

Carina, who have been sitting in second place for the majority of the season, are now on the precipice of finals elimination.

The Tigers were still in the game with three minutes remaining last week against the Seagulls and will be out to finish in front after 80.

From 3pm at Leo Williams Oval, Bulimba will be out to finish their season with back-to-back wins in the final two rounds.

With both feeder clubs to the Brisbane Tigers, there as much at stake for the 2023 grand finalists as a Carina side desperate to give the finals a shake.

They will have trained together and will know each other but come the first whistle that will matter not.

Jim Lawrie Oval from 4.30pm will see Brighton host Wynnum Juniors in their last home game of 2024. A strong performance last week against the Magpies, The Roosters will fancy themselves against the defending premiers.

The Juniors have finally made it into the top five, but a loss in the north could have that become a short-term visit.

A win for the visitors and with results going their way, they could be sitting in second by 6.40pm.

The tricolours have played better than where they sit on the ladder and will be out to prove that in front of their flock at Castle ‘de Rooster.
