Statewide score wrap: Remi wraps up whirlwind year with Dolphins premiership

A dominant display by Kawana Dolphins in Rugby League Sunshine Coast's first standalone women's decider had every player hitting their marks including Remi Hinckesman, who is turning everything she touches to gold.

Wearing the No.13 in the grand final at Sunshine Coast Stadium as part of the league's Women in League celebration day, the 2024 Sunshine Coast Falcons debutant played her role in a 30-4 win.

The Dolphins were dangerous from the opening stages, getting out to an 8-0 lead by half-time and keeping opponents Caboolture out despite the Snakes, backed by a loud fan base, launching multiple attacking raids.

Kawana continued their roll on in the second half - both sides putting their bodies on the line with some massive hits - while Caboolture could only manage a late consolation try.

Hinckesman praised her teammates for all bringing their best game on the day, led by captains Renee Hireme and Maarire Puketapu up the middle, halves Malia Ting and Courtney Lockwood, and try scoring gun centre Suvanah Connors, who nabbed a double.

"Our bond is unmatched and honestly there's not a girl on the team that I don't trust, and all the staff members as well," Hinckesman said.

"We're honestly like a family and I think that's what really made us go through today, that we trust every person on the field and yeah, and no one's gonna get through a team that's bonded that well.

"I think we do get a bit excited sometimes and get a bit of white line fever every now and then, but honestly today not a single person did that and I think we stuck really well to our game and I think that's what got us through.

"It's always tough on, especially versing a side like Caboolture, they're so tough and they just keep going, no matter what, so yeah, I think it's big credit to them, they did push the whole way through the game."

Hinckesman has made a meteoric rise personally since only starting tackling last year, becoming a fixture in the Falcons' BMD Premiership side this year, a progression she puts down to the support of the Kawana Dolphins.

"Like I said, we trust everyone around us and I think that really helps with feeling confident in tackling and I think with coaching staff as well teaching us the right techniques," she said.

"I think BMD helped me a lot with my tackling technique and just being confident on the field, but yeah, I think it comes down to trust on the field and our team has that trust. 

"It's an honour. Yeah, it's unreal. It's hard to explain, but I'll keep striving for more and hopefully get to my big goal."
