BRL lowdown Round 16: Pride hunting for-and-against boost after big win

Beenleigh bounced back after two straight losses to topple the minor premiers West Brisbane 36-24 at Frank Lind Oval in a massive shot in the arm to their finals hopes.

The Pride hold onto equal third (18) with Valley and Redcliffe with three rounds remaining, but sit at the bottom of that trio with a -30 points difference. They will hope to put a dent in that against the struggling Normanby Hounds at Hammel Park on Saturday at 1.30pm.

Brighton will face off against Souths Juniors at Jim Lawrie Oval from 3pm. Neither side can make the finals.

The Magpies pushed the Wynnum Manly Juniors last week, while the Roosters had a rest due to a Normanby forfeit.

Brighton will be fresh and at home and would like to finish the season with a trifecta of wins.

Souths lost to Brighton last time out 36-28 and they also are chasing three from three to finish the season.

In a tantalising clash at Kitchener Park from 4.30pm, the Seagulls will take on the Tigers.

The defending premiers sit just outside the five (17), so it's early semi-finals football as Carina sit alone in second (19).

This is a punters nightmare. Last encounter was locked at 28-all until a Brayden Torpy two-point field goal on fulltime.

Wynnum Manly Juniors must keep winning and hope for a vacancy in the five to emerge.

For Carina, finishing second would give them a home semi-final. - but first things first.

The Seagulls have never missed finals in the past nine years, while Carina have yet to make an appearance. This will be close.

Panthers, Diehards - 6pm at Frank Lind Oval. Wests will be hungry to go back to the winner’s circle after their first loss and what better occasion than the Mud & Blood Army's Back to the Beginning (B2B) Reunion Day.

They are the 2024 minor premiers, but a chink was found in their armour. Valleys is locked in a three-way contest and a loss could see them drop out of the top five. From there it will be sudden death.

There's so much at stake and between two bitter rivals, so it makes for another epic stoush.

Bulimba are at home to Redcliffe from 12.15pm on Sunday at Totally Workwear Stadium.

The formula is simple. The Bulldogs (14 points), if they are to make the five, must win every game. Redcliffe must win to stay in the five.

The Dolphins hit back with strong win over Carina last week - confidence they needed after two straight losses.

The Bulldogs have had many scratching their heads and pondering what they will deliver each week.

The Dogs were too good 32-22 in Round 7 and will need to be again.
