BRL lowdown Round 15: Race for second ensues after Panthers minor title clincher

West Brisbane have won the minor premiership with four rounds of Premier A Grade football remaining.

The Panthers are undefeated thus far in 2024. The last time they were minor premiers they went on to claim the title in 2022.

Six more teams are battling for the remaining finals places to try to take them down when it matters most.

The Diehards host the Bulldogs at Emerson Park from 3pm Saturday.

Valleys share third place with Redcliffe and Beenleigh on 16 points. Bulimba (14) can afford perhaps one more loss and remain on track for semi-finals. It would however, become sudden death.

Valleys have the home ground advantage this weekend and will look to cement a top five spot.

Both squads have blistering pace out wide so look for some corner-to-corner action for some special four pointers. The Bulldogs prevailed at home in round six with a 24-20 win. It could be that close again.

Both Normanby and Brighton have pride to play for at Bert St Claire Oval from 1.30pm.

Both sides have struggled however the Roosters have been the more competitive of late. They tested Wests last week and took down Redcliffe the week before.

The tricolours' first win was in round six against the Hounds 56-12.

Normanby’s defence has struggled with large scores posted against them. They will be out to improve on that but this will be tough as other sides have found against the Roosters in 2024.

Birds of prey hit Brandon Park from 3pm where Magpies will host the Seagulls.

The defending premiers Wynnum Manly Juniors (15) sit one point out of the five but only but two competition points and results their way could move to outright third.

Souths Juniors have at times come to the party and played some entertaining rugby league.

The Seagulls took flight against the Magpies last time with a comprehensive 42 to 6 win.

This is an improved flock and could well stall the Seagulls' flight to finals.

Redcliffe and Carina have swapped second and third spot throughout 2024.

The 'Phins took the win 30-20 in round six but that was at home. They will come together at Leo Williams Oval from 3pm.

A Tigers win will go a long way to securing an import top three, second chance semi-final place.

Redcliffe have lost some form at times and find themselves in a precarious position at the bottom of the five. A loss could have them playing catch up.

Frank Lind Oval at 6pm, Beenleigh will take on West Brisbane.

The Pride after a great middle part of the season have lost their past two games. In round six the Panthers mauled the Pride 62-6.

A loss to Beenleigh will have all their mid-season hard work unravel and have them move out of the five.

While the Panthers are minor premiers they would like to keep their unbeaten record intact.

The round six pasting is unlikely to be repeated as there is a lot at stake for the Pride away from their Den.
