BRL lowdown Round 14: Top five spots still up for grabs

With five rounds remaining in the Premier A Grade Competition, the top five and where they will finish is anyone’s guess.

The Panthers (26) will make the top five while Wests also have one hand on the Minor Premiership title.

Brighton (6) sit in eighth but mathematically could still make it with six other clubs vying for the remaining four spots.

The Magpies will host Normanby at Brandon Park from 3.00pm and while both team’s campaigns are over – neither will want bottom spot on the ladder.

Souths and the Hounds have caused upsets this season and have talent across the park, but neither have unfortunately played consistent defensive football.

This will make for an entertaining 80 minutes with Hounds big men Sed Pianko and Jieye Mauai would love more ball to show their passing, running and maybe a chip kick and regather.

Normanby speed men will be out for some post try celebrations featuring ‘Who let the dogs out’ to bring some joy to a challenging season.

Early semi-final footy is on the cards for the Dolphins and Seagulls at Kayo Stadium from 3:00pm.

Redcliffe (16) are in third place while Wynnum juniors (13) sit just outside the five.

The defending premiers are coming off a massive win while the new kids of 2024 have lost their last two encounters.

Outstanding ball runner Harrison Graham has been named at nine and with fellow front rowers Larry Siala and Tray Lolesio must repel the early onslaught from their traditional foes from the bay side.

The mobility in the middle has been bolstered with the inclusion of Nathan Ward and Ethan Malt plus the hot stepper Simei Fatafehi could be a handful.

There’s a lot on the line here with the Seagulls needing to stay in touch and the Dolphins looking to regain form.

Carina will host Valleys at Leo Williams from 3:00pm.

The Diehards are returning to their winning ways as have the Tigers.

For Carina, the size of their pack is daunting.

Bennett Leslie joins metre-eaters Dredin Sorensen and Jack Svendsen.

Enter the Diehards game changers – Josh Fauid, Simon Brittain-Snowden and Sarah Connor Miller. It’s two versus five on the ladder with Carina claiming an 18-6 the last time they played back in Round Five.

Bulimba and Beenleigh both come off losses when they come together at 3:15pm at Balmoral Recreation Reserve.

It’s a must win for both, or the last two rounds could be sudden death for the top five.

Cruise Ten comes into start at 13 with fellow middlemen LJ Waddups and Cameron Bukowski looking to dominate the middle third.

The Bulldogs have similar talent with Jackson Chang, Nicholas Trevisiol and Max Pakai to counterpunch.

Jim Lawrie Oval will play host to Brighton and West Brisbane from 4:30pm.

A win to the Panthers will almost certainly clinch the minor premiership.

Brighton has found form though and while their season has a slight pulse, they are shaping as a real contender to inflict a first loss to Wests.

Their last start was close with a win at home for Wests 24-14.

The matchups this weekend are one's to watch with Wests’ Shane Pumipi up against Brighton’s Cameron Gill, plus Kyle Van Klaveren, Adam Wickens and Blake Kehl.
