Another standout display by stand-in fullback Trai Fuller inspired the Dolphins to a 36-28 win over the Rabbitohs at Kayo Stadium on Thursday night.
Fuller ran for 253 metres and bagged a try as the Dolphins ensured veteran forward Kenny Bromwich would celebrate his 250th game in style.
After setting up an 18-10 lead at the break on the back of tries to Jack Bostock, Tevita Pangai jnr and Herbie Farnworth, the Dolphins went on with the job to send the Phins faithful home happy.
A superb try to Kodi Nikorima off a Isaiya Katoa grubber early in the second half took the lead out to 24-10 before tries to Jacob Gagai and Alex Johnston got Souths back within six.
The Dolphins then came up with two cracking long-range tries in the space of two minutes through Sean O’Sullivan and Fuller to blow the game open before late tries to Gagai and Johnston added some respectability to the scoreline for Souths.
Wayne Bennett's men now face a daunting challenge against the premiers at Penrith in Round 20 while the Rabbitohs will look to bounce back against Wests Tigers.
