BRL lowdown Round 11: Hounds’ tails up after first win

The Normanby Hounds registered their first win of the season, the cellar dwellers stunning Carina 30-16 last weekend.

This weekend they will look to take the momentum to Bulimba at Totally Workwear Stadium from 3.15pm.

The Bulldogs crashed back to earth last week after having let in 50-plus points. Normanby will fancy themselves in this dog fight against a shocked Bulimba squad.

The Hounds spine of Keon Saunders, Cody Hamilton and Dylan Cross will need to sing against a talented middle from Bulimba in Nikolas Trevisiol, Jackson Chang and Nathan Kegg-King will be charged with restarting last year’s minors premiership assault.

In Round 2 it was Bulimba 60, Normanby 4.

The Pride pipped the Seagulls last week to stay in touch. They will welcome the Diehards to their home turf of Hammel Park from 3pm.

Valleys were too good last week and will not be keen on losing that momentum.

Beenleigh’s big men, ‘Lethal’ Levi Moger, ‘Gelignite’ Jamie Zagahini and Bayley Loughhead have the challenge to mix it with Diehards angry men Zack ‘Garth’ Brooks, Jack ‘Lotto’ Lote and Chris ‘Say it isn’t’ Sio. Round 2 was Valleys 28, Beenleigh 22.

Brighton Roosters’ season hangs by a thread. The neighbors – Redcliffe Juniors - are coming to Jim Lawrie Oval. The ‘Phins sit in second place are not keen to give that up.

From 3pm, Brighton must start and finish with commitment.

They will have their chook pen faithful to lift them, but it will all ride on the muscle out in the middle.

And muscle they have. Lonatana Stehlin, Lucky Pokipoki and Liam ‘Head’ Gash.

The ‘Phins will count on their speed out wide to finish the job. Jeremiah ‘Havoc’ Havea, Montel ‘Lightning’ Lisala and Michael McGrath would love nothing better than to repay the supporters at the southern end. Round 2 was Redcliffe 38, Brighton 22.

Carina had a setback last week to lose their second spot. Leo Williams Oval from 3pm will be the scene of their date with the the Magpies, who will land looking to give Carina a second loss.

Souths Juniors were impressive last week against Redcliffe and will fancy themselves against a troubled Tigers squad.

Samuel ‘The Viking’ Vakadula, Tom ‘Thor’ McGrath and Caleb ‘Easy’ Pese all love scoring tries.

So too do Magpies’ Ryan ‘Footy’ Franks, Jonathan ‘Volks’ Van Aswegen and Presley Sau.

Carina wants second spot. Souths Juniors want two points. Enjoy. Round 2 was Carina 30, Souths 28.

Premiers from the past two years – Wynnum Manly Juniors 2024 and West Brisbane Panthers 2023 – are set for a ripper at Kitchener Park from 4.30pm.

The Panthers were ruthless last start, as they have been all season, while the Seagulls stumbled.

The Juniors need a win. The Panthers want to remain undefeated.

There is no doubting the brilliance and mobility of the Seagulls’ pack, particularly their back row of James Robinson, Nathan ‘Rehabilitation’ Ward and Kelepi Faukafa.

West Brisbane, led by Sam Collins, have menace across the park.

The Panthers also have reliability in the back row with Collins. James Flack and Jack ‘not the singer’ Johnson will not disappoint.

How good will this be? Get there and find out. Round 2 is Wests 42, Wynnum 16.
