Queensland Rugby League is thrilled to launch its 2024 Queensland Maroons Indigenous jersey, co-designed by the late Carl Webb.
The jersey, which pays homage to Webb’s legacy and deep connection to Queensland’s Indigenous culture, will be worn by members of the Maroons squad ahead of the opening game of this year’s State of Origin series.
All proceeds from sales on maroonsshop.com will be donated to the Carl Webb Foundation.
This foundation was established by Webb and his close friends and family to raise awareness and much needed funds in an effort to combat Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Webb sadly lost his fight against the disease in December last year, but his memory and achievements will inspire the current crop of Maroons in their quest for Origin supremacy in the years to come.
As FOG No. 124, Webb’s State of Origin highlights reel will forever be part of rugby league folklore.
Webb’s former Maroons teammates and fans still laud his State of Origin debut in 2001, when the then 20-year-old crashed through several New South Wales players to score a stunning try that lifted his team to an upset win at Suncorp Stadium.
While Webb was bravely fighting MND, he joined forces with a local Indigenous artist from his hometown of Dalby to design the 2024 Indigenous jersey.
The colours, circles and ‘spirits’ in the jersey design all carry a special meaning, along with the iconic ‘Q’, a nod to the way Webb styled his hair when donning the maroon.
