The Brisbane Tigers are pleased to announce Matt Church will coach the club's Hostplus Cup team until the end of the 2026 season.
Church and his squad last year ended the club’s 32-year premiership drought when they defeated the Burleigh Bears 22-18 in the grand final.
Church joined the Tigers at the end of the 2022 season, after several years as head coach of the PNG Hunters.
Tigers CEO Brian Torpy said the club was very happy to extend Church's contract for a further two seasons.
“Whilst Matt was contracted to the end of the 2024 season, the board resolved to extend his contract for the 2025 and 2026 seasons," Torpy said.
“Matt presented a vision for the club when we interviewed him at the end of 2022 and that vision was to break the drought. His vision now is to defend our title, and the playing group are on a crusade to do just that."
Church said he is delighted to extend his stay with the Tigers.
Tigers coach Church: 'We'll have to defend our kingdom'
“The club put faith in me to come back here for the 2023 season, so to know I have three more seasons ahead of me gives me the confidence to continue the work we have started," Church said.
“Thanks to the players who allow me to coach them, their buy-in to the vision helps us achieve the results that ultimately lead to being extended out to the end of 2026.
"I'm grateful, humble and remain hungry to build on from last year."
The Tigers kick off the 2024 season on Sunday at 2pm against the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Totally Workwear Stadium.
