Ty Williams to step down as Northern Pride coach

The Northern Pride has today announced head coach Ty Williams has decided to step away from the game after an illustrious 23-year career encompassing both playing and coaching.

Throughout his tenure as a player and coach, Williams - who will see out the remainder of the 2023 season as the Pride push for this year's finals series - has been an integral part of the club and his impact on the Pride's history and rugby league has been enormous.

From his early days as a talented player at the North Queensland Cowboys to his  transition into coach, Williams has exemplified the true spirit of the game and has been an inspiration to players and fans alike.

Under Williams' guidance, the Northern Pride has achieved remarkable successes, with notable accomplishments and memorable moments etched into the history of the club.

His coaching philosophy - fixed on teamwork, respect, and perseverance - has created a culture that will continue to shape the future of our team and its players.

However, after careful consideration and with the utmost understanding and support from the club, Williams has decided that it is time to take a well-deserved break from the rigors of the game.

This decision is driven by a desire to prioritise family commitments and some time to consider other opportunities.

As a club, the Pride respect Williams' decision and wish him, his wife Kristy, and sons Kyan and Bodhi nothing but the best during this period of transition.

The legacy he leaves behind and the lasting impact of his contributions to the Northern Pride will be valued for years to come.

The Northern Pride Rugby League Club will now get on with the process of selecting a new head coach for season 2024 and beyond.

The club are committed to finding a replacement in a timely manner, who will embrace the values and vision of the Pride, ensuring a seamless transition and continued success on and off the field.

On behalf of the entire Northern Pride family - the players, staff, supporters, and stakeholders - we extend our sincerest gratitude to Williams for his unwavering dedication and the exceptional legacy he leaves behind.
