Hastings Deering Colts Round 7 preview

The next instalment in the Hasting Deering Colts will feature the Brisbane Tigers playing Central Queensland Capras.

The Tigers have been in tremendous form and are currently undefeated with five wins from five games.

The last time the Tigers and Capras hit it off together was a high scoring 38-18 win to the Capras.

The Tigers dealt with the Mackay Cutters last round 30-14 in a complete display that is sending an alarm through the side.

The Tigers are the real deal. Their defence has been outstanding keeping out all bar 84 points.

Against the Cutters, the Tigers led 16-10 at half time and then closed it out in the second half, with three second half tries to the Cutters one.

Somehow the Tigers did this with less ball than the Cutters, which shows how resilient they are at the moment.

The Tigers made better use of the ball when they had it and that resulted in more tries.

They made eight-line breaks and scored six tries on the back of their ball usage.

At the heart of the Tigers’ ball usage was Lachlan West the Tigers fullback was a fully blown star with a try right at the end of the game.

West also made 253 run metres and three line breaks. He has been great for the Tigers and also made 164 run metres gained against the Bears, three tries and 163 metres gained against the Blackhawks and 165 metres gained against the Devils.

West now has five tries and 7th most in the Hasting Deering Colts. With Bailey Black having 44 points in five games and third most points.

The Tigers are working from a solid base and coach Mark Gliddon knows what West has provided and where the Tigers currently sit.

“Lachlan West is a really quiet humble kid that I almost have to force to talk but we have made him part of our leadership group and he’s really getting the job done.” Gliddon said.

“He’s been great for us to start the year.

“I know winning five games might look impressive but there are still things that we haven’t been doing well like completing our sets and just our all over discipline. We keep giving teams easy outs from our end.

“Capras will be similar to the Cutters, they are big country lads that will fight.

“Our effort areas have been on and I watch for that to know how we are going to go and we have been finding a way to win despite things like being 100 per cent.

“That’s pleasing.”

The Magpies face a Bears side looking for a third straight win.

The Blackhawks and Wynnum Manly Seagulls will do battle.

Redcliffe will look to maintain their competition lead up against the Clydesdales.

The Falcons, taking on the Cutters, will be looking to establish some momentum after a bye.

Both the Jets and pride will be looking for their first win of the season.
