Round 9 Sunday wrap: Forwards lead in Tigers win over Devils

The Brisbane Tigers forward pack led the way today in their Round 9 win against Norths Devils at Bishop Park.

Tigers coach Matt Church said the starting forward pack put in a solid performance and the team's defence as a whole set them up well to get the win.

"Really good team performance, really happy that we put it together as a group," Church said.

"Our starting middles were really good, I think we defended really well in that first half and set it up.

"I think the second half was a much more polished performance from us... we wanted to build pressure and I thought we let Norths off the hook a bit in the first half, but pleasing to apply that pressure and get results on the back of it.

"Norths had a couple of chances but we managed to nullify that."

Tigers winger George Jennings got a double and centre Solomona Faataape put in a Hastings Deering player of the match performance during the feature game on Qplus.tv.

Church said he was pleased with the direction his side was headed as the season progressed.

"It was always going to take a little bit to gel and find our natural groove but we're starting to really see the identity of our footy side," Church said.

"I thought we were really good in terms of our resilience again today."

Tiger captain Ryley Jacks agreed the forward pack led the way.

"It was a great win. To come to Bishop Park, it's not easy to get a win. Especially with this weather... I'm very proud of the boys actually," Jacks said.

"Our think our whole forward pack was really good. I think we won it through the middle today. Everyone did their role really well today. Especially in defence... I think that's the best we've defended all year."

Jacks said despite sometimes getting Melbourne Storm players back on game day, Church was good at keeping things simple to give the side the best chance of success.

"We're going really well," Jacks said.

"As long as we're finding our straps towards the back end, that's key. That's when it's important."
