Tertiary students are being urged to apply for the 2023 Queensland Universities team ahead of a tour to New Zealand by the national team in October.
The Queensland Universities team will play NSW Universities in the annual challenge match on Saturday, July 22, at historic North Sydney Oval.
Students at universities, TAFEs, private colleges and registered training organisations (RTOs) are be eligible for the Queensland Universities team; to apply, click here.
An Australian Universities team will be chosen from the interstate match in Sydney, with a tour to New Zealand in October in planning.
Several players have represented the Australian Universities team and gone on to higher honours, including Lote Tuqiri, Adam Mogg, Mark Tookey and Anthony Don.
The Queensland Universities team will be coached by Brisbane Tigers Hastings Deering Colts coach and former Norths Devils Hostplus Cup coach Mark Gliddon, with Jody Barlow as his assistant.
Gliddon and Barlow led the Queensland Universities team to a victory over NSW last year.
Applications for the team are open now and will close at 5pm on Monday May 30.
Players should note that a subsidy of between $750 and $1000 is to be paid by the player to cover all travel including flights to Sydney, training and playing kit, an after-match function at North Sydney Leagues Club, the majority of meals and all accommodation.
