Round 7 Team of the Week: Watson wonderful with five

Five tries, a hat-trick, big tackle counts and stellar performances by fullbacks and hookers headlined Round 7 of Hostplus Cup. 

Western Clydesdales winger Mitchell Watson was unstoppable, scoring a huge five tries against Ipswich Jets and earning the Hostplus strong performer nod as well as captain honours for the Round 7 Team of the Week. 

Burleigh Bears second rower Jacob Alick was a force to be reckoned with against Brisbane Tigers, putting in a Hastings Deering player of the match effort in the feature game. 

Each round, Queensland Rugby League recognises the 17 best performers and names the Hostplus Cup Team of the Week, presented by Hostplus. These team selections are based not only on statistical data, but also take on board live and broadcast viewings of the games.

Round 7 Team of the Week

1. Keano Kini - Burleigh Bears

The Bears fullback was excellent during his side's tight win against Brisbane Tigers. Kini scored one try, registered 206 run meres, three line breaks, one try assist and four tackle breaks. Plenty of other fullbacks across the competition performed well at the weekend including Souths Logan's Tristan Sailor with 234 run metres, including 175 post-contact; Redcliffe Dolphins' Trai Fuller with one try and seven tackle breaks and Norths Devils' Jack Ahearn with three try assists.

2. Ken Maumalo - Burleigh Bears

The Bears winger was impressive in Round 7. Maumalo scored one try, assisted in another, registered 192 run metres including 41 post-contact, four line breaks, one tackle break and made two tackles, missing none. Central Queensland Capras winger Brandon Roberts was also on fire with two tries, 167 run metres, ]one line break and two tackle breaks.

3. Melino Fineanganofo - Western Clydesdales

The Clydesdales centres was superb against the Jets during his 60 minutes on the field. Fineanganofo registered three try assists, 166 run metres, including 56 post-contact, two line break assists and five tackle breaks.

4. Delouise Hoeter - Wynnum Manly Seagulls

The Wynnum Manly talent, who is signed with the Brisbane Broncos, was solid for his side in Rockhampton with two tries, 131 run metres, two line breaks, five tackle breaks and four tackles with 100 per cent tackle efficiency. Fellow Wynnum Manly centre Deine Mariner was also good with one try, one try assist and eight tackle breaks.

5. Mitchell Watson - Western Clydesdales (C)

An absolute try-scoring machine against Ipswich Jets, Watson crossed the line five times, assisted in one try, registered 136 run metres, four line breaks, one line break assist and three tackle breaks. Townsville Blackhawks winger Robert Derby also performed well in a losing side with 228 run metres, including 111 post-contact, one line break and five tackle breaks.

6. Cory McGrady - Western Clydesdales

The Clydesdales five-eighth was in fine form in Round 7. McGrady made 112 run metres, assisted in two tries, registered two line break assists and 10 tackles. Central Queensland's Anthony Milford was also good during his side's win over Wynnum Manly.

7. Cody Hunter - Redcliffe Dolphins

The Dolphins halfback was valuable in the middle for his side against the Falcons; Hunter kicked three conversions, one penalty goal, assisted in two tries, made 68 run metres, four line break assists, one tackle break and nine tackles.

8. Logan Bayliss-Brow - Souths Logan Magpies

The Souths Logan prop, who is signed with the Brisbane Broncos, was a standout during his side's big win over Townsville Blackhawks. Bayliss-Brow, during his 43 minutes on the field, scored one try, registered 85 run metres, one line break, a huge nine tackle breaks and 16 tackles with 94.12 per cent tackle efficiency.

9. Liam Horne - Norths Devils

A consistent performer for the Devils, Horne scored a hat-trick of tries, assisted in one try, registered 142 run metres, three line breaks, eight tackle breaks and 29 tackles, missing none. Brisbane Tigers hooker Tristan Hope, Souths Logan's Blake Mozer, Burleigh's Pat Politoni and Redcliffe's Sheldon Pitama also performed well in Round 7.  

10. Xavier Willison - Norths Devils

Willison, who is signed with Brisbane Broncos, was a force for Norths during his 53 minutes on the field in Round 7. Willison scored one try, registered a huge 265 run metres, including 127 post-contact, one line break, three tackle breaks and nine tackles.

11. Jacob Alick - Burleigh Bears

The Bears second rower, who is signed with Gold Coast Titans, put in a Hastings Deering player of the match performance against Brisbane Tigers. Alick scored one try, registered 104 run metres and 36 tackles with 97.3 per cent tackle efficiency.

12. Jeremiah Simbiken - Redcliffe Dolphins

The Dolphins second rower dug deep during his side's win over Sunshine Coast Falcons. Simbiken scored one try, assisted in one try, registered 135 run metres, including 59 post-contact, one line break assist, three tackle breaks and 25 tackles. PNG second rower Julius Yakopa was also strong with one try, 77 run metres, one line break, two tackle breaks and 34 tackles.

13. Rory Ferguson - Souths Logan Magpies

Ferguson, during his 41 minutes on the field, registered 115 run metres, including 55 post-contact, and made 25 tackles, missing none.

14. Tyran Wishart - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The Sunshine Coast hooker, who is signed with Melbourne Storm, was good for the Falcons during their loss to Redcliffe Dolphins. Wishart scored one try, kicked two from two conversions, one penalty goal, registered 82 run metres, one line break, eight tackle breaks and 37 tackles, with 92.5 per cent tackle efficiency.

15. Bailey Butler - Central Queensland Capras

The Central Queensland prop, during his 48 minutes on the field, make a huge impact for his side with one try, 177 run metres, including 59 post-contact, one line break, four tackle breaks and 15 tackles.

16. Morea Morea - PNG Hunters

The Hunters talent put in a strong performance against Mackay Cutters in Port Moresby. Morea scored one try, assisted in one try, registered 135 run metres, one line break, one line break assist, five tackle breaks and four tackles with 100 per cent tackle efficiency.

17. Rodrick Tai - PNG Hunters

Tai was also good for the Hunters with one try, 132 run metres, including 59 post-contact, one line break, four tackle breaks and 15 tackles with 93.75 per cent tackle efficiency.
