Round 5 Sunday wrap: Tweed claim the 'flockbuster', Souths Logan stun Redcliffe

A tough Tweed Seagulls outfit moved into the top eight with a 'flockbuster' victory over Wynnum Manly on Sunday, while Souths Logan flexed their muscle with a commanding win over Redcliffe.

Tweed - coming off a narrow Round 4 loss to Burleigh - put their pain from two weeks ago behind them, overpowering Wynnum Manly at BMD Kougari Oval 44-26.

Led strongly by fullback - and Hastings Deering player of the match - Lindon McGrady, the backs starred for Tweed while the forwards aimed up to set the standard.

Winger Ryland Jacobs nabbed a hat-trick while a returning Jojo Fifita also bagged a double.

Coach Dave Penna was proud as punch after the match and said his team has shown a lot of resilience over the opening five rounds, with both of their earlier losses decided by two points or less.

"The boys played well," he said of today's performance.

"It was a hot day and (Wynnum Manly are) a classy footy side so we worked hard on our game. We know we’re getting better every week.

"We’re still having those little lapses in the second half but we’ll just keep working on it.

"They worked hard together. We kicked out on the full from the kick-off and had to defend our own try line for 10 minutes and I thought, 'oh, here we go.'

"But they dug deep and stuck in ... They’re a tough footy side and we have seven or eight boys only playing their third or fourth Cup game.

"I was really pleased with what they did so a very, very happy coach at the moment."

Meanwhile, also on Sunday, Souths Logan made a massive statement against Redcliffe, notching up a 60-4 victory at Davies Park.

Winger Jack Smith scored a whopping five tries with fullback Tristan Sailor also earning himself a double.

Souths Logan moved into third on the Hostplus Cup ladder for their efforts and are undefeated to start the season, with two wins and two draws to their name.

They will move into a big clash next week against the Sunshine Coast Falcons while Redcliffe will take on the Ipswich Jets in Round 6.

Tweed will come up against Townsville - fresh off a bye - and Wynnum Manly will look to bounce back when they host the Northern Pride.
