A League of Her Own is a story about passion. It's a story about juggling life commitments and excellence on the field.
The documentary on the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons, which features coach Tahnee Norris and star players Ali Brigginshaw and Karina Brown, will premiere at the Brisbane International Film Festival on October 30.
Filmed during 2021, it includes intense behind the scenes footage, intimate interviews and the journey to the State of Origin clash against New South Wales.
Norris said the documentary was important for people to understand the history of women in rugby league and to provide inspiration to young girls.
"It is a really important story... it's real, it's authentic," Norris said, adding it had been a long time in the making.
"We all have our own stories, own viewpoints and own journeys, but each is inspirational.
"This documentary shows the pathway and shows how hard so many have worked to get it to what it is now."
Norris said given it was filmed and produced by female crew meant it was bigger than just rugby league.
"It's not just a sporting journey, it's a female journey," Norris said.
"It's cool, it's special."
Producer Veronica Fury said the documentary - one of 120 the BIFF will showcase across 11 days, starting on October 27 - was for everybody.
First look: A League of Her Own
“It’s a hero’s story, it’s a universal story, but it’s more than just the sport itself... these are incredibly inspiring women," Fury said.
“You go on this journey with them against all odds."
The maroon carpet will be rolled out at the Brisbane Powerhouse for the premiere of A League of Her Own on October 30.
