Finals Week 2 Team of the Week: Khan-Pereira kills it

The second week of Hostplus Cup finals saw two cracking elimination finals played and Burleigh Bears and Sunshine Coast Falcons progress to the preliminary finals.

Winger Alofiana Khan-Pereira was on fire for the Bears, scoring a hat-trick of tries to earn himself the Hastings Deering player of the match gong and skipper honours for the Finals Week 2 Team of the Week.

Falcons prop Tepai Moeroa was excellent during his side's come-from-behind win against Tweed Seagulls, earning himself the Hastings Deering player of the match award for Sunday's game.

Each round, Queensland Rugby League recognises the 17 best performers and name the Hostplus Cup Team of the Week, presented by Hostplus. These team selections are based not only on statistical data, but also take on board live and broadcast viewings of the games.

Finals Week 2 Team of the Week

1. Taine Tuaupiki - Burleigh Bears

The always dangerous Bears fullback was exactly that against the Central Queensland Capras in what was an exciting elimination final. Tuaupiki registered 254 run metres, 103 kick return metres, three line breaks, one line break assist, two try assists and eight tackle breaks to help his side progress to the elimination final against Redcliffe Dolphins.

2. Alofiana Khan-Pereira - Burleigh Bears (C)

Khan-Pereira had a huge game at the weekend. The elusive winger scored a hat-trick of tries, registered 296 run metres, two line breaks and four tackle breaks to earn himself the Hastings Deering player of the match award and skipper honours for the Finals Week 2 Team of the Week.

3. Grant Anderson - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The Sunshine Coast centre was excellent against Tweed Seagulls, with the game going into extra time as the Falcons spectacularly came back from a 24-0 deficit to win the game 26-24. Anderson, during his 83 minutes on the field, registered 160 run metres, including 74 post-contact, one line break assist, two tackle breaks and 11 tackles.

4. Esan Marsters - Burleigh Bears

Marsters, who is contracted to the Gold Coast Titans, was very good for the Bears against the Capras. The talented centre registered 170 run metres, including 65 post-contact, one line break assist, one try assist, one tackle break and eight tackles.

5. Brandon Roberts - Central Queensland Capras

Roberts was extremely strong for the Capras during their 32-16 elimination final loss to the Bears. The flyer scored two of the Capras' three tries, registered 93 run metres, two line breaks, seven tackle breaks and 11 tackles.

6. Josh Rogers - Burleigh Bears

The consistent five-eighth was on fire for the Bears. Rogers scored a try, kicked four from six conversion attempts, registered 92 run metres and made one line break, one line break assist, four tackle breaks and 17 tackles.

7. Toby Sexton - Tweed Seagulls

The Gold Coast Titans-contracted half was excellent in a losing side at the weekend. Sexton scored one try, registered 165 run metres, one tackle break, 16 tackles and a huge 470 kick metres. 

8. Sam Lisone - Tweed Seagulls

The flying prop, who is also contracted to the Gold Coast Titans, scored a cracking try in his side's tight loss to Sunshine Coast Falcons. During his 42 minutes on the field, Lisone also registered one try assist where he set up fellow prop JJ Collins in a try any halfback would be proud of, 148 run metres, two line breaks, six tackle breaks and 16 tackles with 94.12 per cent tackle efficiency.

9. Tyson Smoothy - Sunshine Coast Falcons

A standout hooker in the competition this year, Smoothy did what he does best against Tweed. Smoothy kicked four from four conversion attempts, kicked the winning penalty goal, registered 88 run metres, one try assist, one line break assist, two tackle breaks and a huge 52 tackles with 94.55 per cent tackle efficiency.

10. Tyler Szepanowski - Central Queensland Capras

The Capras prop was a workhorse for his side during his 53 minutes on the field. Szepanowski registered 147 run metres, including 50 post-contact, three tackle breaks and 35 tackles with 94.59 per cent tackle efficiency.

11. Jack Gibbons - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The Falcons second rower was excellent during his side's win against the Seagulls. Gibbons scored one try, registered 61 run metres, one line break, one line break assist, two tackle breaks and 29 tackles with 93.55 per cent tackle efficiency.

12. Hayden Schwass - Burleigh Bears

The solid Bears second rower was pivotal to his side's win over the Capras. Schwass scored one try, registered 116 run metres, one line break, two tackle breaks and 31 tackles.

13. Sam Coster - Burleigh Bears

The Bears lock, during his 66 minutes on the field, registered 91 run metres, one tackle break and made a big 36 tackles. 

14. Tepai Moeroa - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The Melbourne Storm-contracted prop, during his 52 minutes on the field, was superb. Moeroa registered 145 run metres and 25 tackles in a Hastings Deering player of the match performance.

15. JJ Collins - Tweed Seagulls

Collins was excellent for the Seagulls during their final game of the year. The Seagulls prop, during his 47 minutes on the field, scored one try, registered 155 run metres, including 51 post-contact, 12 hit-ups and 24 tackles with 96 per cent tackle efficiency.

16. Charlie Murray - Tweed Seagulls

Murray, who slotted in at hooker for the Seagulls, was very good during his 69 minutes on the field. Murray registered 88 run metres and 34 tackles with 94.44 per cent tackle efficiency. 

17. Cooper Johns - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The Falcons five-eighth, who is contracted to Melbourne Storm, had a good game against the Seagulls. Johns registered 119 run metres, one line break assist, one try assist, three tackle breaks, 18 tackles with 90 per cent tackle efficiency and 243 kick metres.
