Norths Devils and Redcliffe Dolphins secured Hostplus Cup preliminary final berths with their respective opponents to be decided in week two of the finals this weekend.
The Devils’ thrilling 20-19 victory over the Burleigh Bears puts the 2021 premiers within one more win of a second consecutive grand final appearance.
After the bruising clash, Norths will rest up this weekend before meeting the winner of the Sunshine Coast Falcons and Tweed Seagulls match to be played at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday.
Tweed is coming off a strong elimination final win over Brisbane Tigers, while the Falcons have one more week to get it right after going down to the Dolphins in the 2 v 3 semi-final.
Redcliffe’s preliminary final match will be against the winner of the week two finals showdown between the Bears and Central Queensland Capras.
The Capras head to Pizzey Park on Saturday buoyed by a brilliant comeback win over Northern Pride.
In the Hastings Deering Colts, Townsville Blackhawks and Central Queensland Capras are through to the preliminary final weekend.
The Blackhawks beat the Dolphins 36-20, while the Capras knocked over 2021 premiers the Wynnum Manly Seagulls 24-20.
It means the Seagulls enter sudden death mode against Tweed Seagulls, who stayed in the premiership hunt with a last-gasp win over Brisbane Tigers.
The Dolphins will get a shot at redemption this weekend whey the play the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the other elimination final.
The Falcons were impressive winners over the Mackay Cutters in week one of the finals.
