Simbiken drives Dolphins to win over Wynnum Manly

The Papuan New Guinean second rower was in everything for the Dolphins, scoring two tries and terrorising the Seagulls with some bone-rattling defence on the edges.

From the opening whistle, it was evident where Redcliffe's mindset was with some strong defence to open the proceedings.

It was the home side who opened the scoring when Daejarn Asi threw a looping pass out to Setu Tu who was covered by swarming Seagulls defence and was heading onto touch before slipping a pass back inside to Viliami Vailea who crossed untouched.

Anything the Dolphins could do so could the Seagulls when they produced the Supercheap Auto Play of the Day.

It started with an inside ball from Matiu Love- Henry to Te Maire Martin who found Zac Hoskings backing up who in turn gave it back to Martin who crossed for the try.

The next 15 minutes, it was the Dolphins who were building pressure with good field position keeping Wynnum Manly pinned in their own end, until Simbiken ran through a hole to cross for his first try of the day.

It was the Dolphins who led 12-6 at the break with Dolphins coach Scott Murray telling his side they had make the most every opportunity because they won’t come around that often.

And didn’t the Dolphins follow their coach's instructions to the tee, crossing for three tries in the opening 11 minutes of the second half.

First off, Rocco Berry took advantage of a powerful Adam Pompey run to score before Pompey got one himself and Simbiken crossed for his second.

At 28-6 it looked like it was going to be all the Dolphins, but fans can never write off a quality team like the Seagulls.

They worked their way into some good field position and forced a few errors from the Dolphins.

First, it was a stepping try from five-eighth Max Plath before Brisbane Bronco Delouise Hoeter crossed in the 73rd minute.

While he was happy with the win, Dolphins coach Murray said the side still had plenty of work and improvement left in them.

Seagulls coach Adam Brideson also would’ve been unhappy with his side’s handling in the warm conditions.

Next week, the Dolphins travel to Davies Park to take on the Souths Logan Magpies.

Wynnum Manly travel to Ipswich to take on the Jets.
