The PNG Hunters board and management have congratulated the club's assistant coach Stanley Tepend on his appointment as PNG Kumuls head coach ahead of the upcoming Pacific Test and the end-of-season Rugby League World Cup.
Tepend is thoroughly deserving of the opportunity having enjoyed great success in the Digicel Cup competition and proving an invaluable member of the coaching staff with the Hunters this year as an assistant.
Tepend has the full support of the Hunters in accepting this new role while also fulfilling his duties as assistant coach in the club's 2022 QRL Hostplus Cup campaign.
PNG Hunters chair Mr Stan Joyce CSM was delighted with the announcement.
“On behalf of the Hunters, I would like to extend congratulations to Stanley on his appointment as the Kumuls head coach,” Joyce said.
“Stanley is doing a wonderful job as assistant coach for the Hunters and I am pleased to see him get the opportunity to further his development with the PNG National side.”
Tepend was excited to know it was actually happening following the official announcement.
“I’m just very humbled and very grateful for the opportunity,” Tepend said.
“The last few months have been interesting. There’s a lot of work to be done with the Pacific Test fast approaching and I need to make sure I balance both roles because first and foremost I know I’ve got a job to do here with the Hunters.
“I’m very thankful for the support around me.”
This weekend, the Hunters have the weekend off and will be back in action next weekend for Round 10 - Week 2 in the Hostplus Cup.
