The Gold Coast’s famous sun, sand and surf will provide a stunning setting as the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons ride a wave of support into this year’s Ampol State of Origin match.
Queensland’s premier female rugby league team are locked in for three hours of fun with fans and junior players at Kurrawa Beach on Saturday, June 18.
The annual fan day event includes a junior clinic on the beach, free activities and giveaways, as well as the opportunity for supporters to grab an autograph with their favourite players as the Maroons prepare for their Origin clash against New South Wales.
This year’s match will be played at Canberra’s GIO Stadium for the first time, with the Maroons eager for a third-straight Origin triumph after last year’s thrilling 8-6 win.
Maroons coach Tahnee Norris, a proud Gold Coast resident with many years of success at local level, is excited about the opportunity to engage with fans at Kurrawa before the team embarks on its Canberra mission.
“Community rugby league on the coast is growing stronger each year and this event is a great opportunity for fans and aspiring Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons to come along and show their support for the team,” Norris said.
“These events give the players an enormous lift heading into such a big game, and I know the players and coaching staff always enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community and fans who support us.”
Norris has already named a 32-member squad who have been training together this month ahead of the June 24 clash.
With this year’s game to be played on neutral territory for the first time, the Maroons will be drawing on the energy from supporters on the Gold Coast before they head to the nation’s capital.
The team will also have the backing of partner Harvey Norman, who are once again supporting the Maroons every step of the way.
“Harvey Norman is immensely proud to support the Maroons and female rugby league in Queensland,” Sam Waters, Harvey Norman general manager of sponsorships, said.
“Participation numbers are growing each year and events like the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons player clinic at Kurrawa will no doubt encourage more girls to get involved with their local club team.
“Registrations are now open and we look forward to seeing some future stars of the game mixing with their Maroons heroes in a fun-filled afternoon on the coast.”
