Tertiary students are being urged to apply to be part of the first Queensland Universities team to represent the state since 2019.
Students at universities, TAFEs, private colleges and registered training organisations (RTOs) are eligible for the team that will face NSW Universities at the Sunshine Coast next month.
The match will be played at Maroochydore Junior Rugby League on Saturday, June 25 - the day before the the Queensland Maroons meet NSW for Game II in Perth.
The annual Universities Challenge between Queensland and NSW has not been played since the onset of the COVID pandemic.
Organisers of the Queensland team are expecting a strong playing list to apply, with the match being played on the representative weekend, when there are no games played in the Hostplus Cup or Hastings Deering Colts competitions.
The interstate match will also be used to select an Australian Universities team, with a tour being planned for October.
The University Maroons will be coached by former Norths Devils coach Mark Gliddon, who is currently in charge of the Brisbane Tigers’ Hastings Deering Colts team.
Players will need to commit to a training camp that will be held on the Sunshine Coast from Tuesday June 21, and be required to cover a nominal levy to help cover the cost of the camp, with all playing kit, meals and accommodation included.
Interested parties are asked to fill out the application form here.
Applications for the team will close at midnight on Monday June 6.
