XXXX Foley Shield: Townsville and Mackay triumph on final day

Townsville have knocked off reigning men's Foley Shield champions Mackay to take out the 2022 title.

Co-coached by Roy Baira and Matt Bowen, the strong Townsville outfit flexed their muscle on the final day of the competition, notching up a convincing 30-8 victory at Jack Manski Oval.

They will now advance to the XXXX League Championship semi-final against Rockhampton, with both teams fighting it out for a place in the state final against the Gold Coast.

Meanwhile, in the women's draw, Mackay managed to get one back over Townsville, thanks to for-and-against points.

The two teams drew 12-all but thanks to an impressive 28-point win over Cairns, Mackay had the stronger for-and-against.

Cairns bowed out of the competition in both the men's and women's draws after two consecutive days of losses.
