The Burleigh Bears have continued their winning form to start the season with a tough 18-6 win over the Redcliffe Dolphins this afternoon at Pizzey Park.
As usual when the two sides meet the physicality remained at an all-time high throughout the entire 80 minutes.
Burleigh opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a pinpoint kick from Guy Hamilton off the back of some second phase play setting up Alofiana Khan-Pereira just short of the dead ball line. Josh Rogers later added the two points to Khan-Pereira’s try.
Hamilton’s boot continued to look threatening throughout the match with his precision kicking forcing multiple repeat sets and keeping the pressure applied to the Redcliffe defence.
Despite the mounting pressure from Burleigh, the Dolphin’s withheld. The next points went their way in the 36th minute when interchange player Benjamin King was sent crashing over close to the posts, setting up an easy opportunity for Adam Cook to convert prior to half-time.

Burleigh were gifted a further two points in the 43rd minute when some ill-discipline caught the Redcliffe defence offside allowing Rogers to put the Bears ahead. Shortly after, some good vision and a well-weighted kick from Pat Politoni saw Rogers cross for another four points.
A late try to Tony Francis within the final 10 minutes pushed the lead just outside of the Dolphins' reach and the Bears defence allowed them to hold the 18-6 scoreline until the final whistle.
Play of the game
Guy Hamilton’s boot not only applied pressure throughout the match but was also the key ingredient in Alofiana Khan-Pereira’s try in the fourth minute.
Some brilliant vision off the back off second phase play created by Bears forwards Api Noema-Matenga and Sam Coster allowed Hamilton to place a pinpoint kick for Khan-Pereira to capitalise.
