Statewide competitions trials - March 18, 19, 20

Last weekend's trials were the final opportunity for Hostplus Cup teams to work on their combinations and put the finishing touches on their plays with the competition officially kicking off this week.

Round 1 will see four big games played on Saturday to launch the weekend of football with three more games on Sunday, culminating with Townsville Blackhawks hosting defending premiers Norths Devils at Jack Manski Oval.

Last weekend, the Blackhawks faced off against Mackay Cutters in Bowen, while Sunshine Coast Falcons and Redcliffe Dolphins featured at Bribie Island.

The PNG Hunters played against West Brisbane Panthers (main image) and finalised their 2022 pre-season with an 18-14 win over the Brisbane A Grade side.

The Digicel Cup premiership winning coach and Hunters’ assistant filled in for usual head coach Matt Church as part of his ongoing education and development, and was pleased with the result.

“I thought we started really well. We executed what we practiced during the week and it was encouraging to see the boys action what was spoken about before the game,” Tepend said.

This weekend, the Hunters will travel to face Mackay Cutters.
