'Having Tino there, he pushes me to go harder' - Fa'asuamaleaui

Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui walks like his brother Tino, talks like his brother and by all reports, plays rugby league like his brother. 

Fa'asuamaleaui, on a train-and-trial deal with Gold Coast Titans, is stoked to be on the training paddock with Queensland Maroons talent and big brother Tino, who frequently says "he's always been the better brother". 

"It's been good so far, I'm loving it... especially having Tino there, he pushes me to go harder and I'm doing the same for him," the 20-year-old said, adding it was "a lot more intense and a lot more high pace" than backyard footy with his brother growing up.

"I play the same as my brother... I'm a prop/lock, so we kind of followed the same footpath growing up. See how I go.

"The biggest thing for Tino, he always tells me to train hard and train at 100 per cent. Make the most of every training session. Even if it's just the small drills... make the most and put 100 per cent in. Do all the one percenters… just train hard. That's basically it.

"Everything is going good. The boys are good. I'm enjoying it heaps."

Fa'asuamaleaui, who played for Burleigh Bears' Hastings Deering Colts side this year and was part of the Junior Titans System, experienced a couple of injuries during the year so "couldn't really get into the flow", but is determined for 2022 to be different.

The young gun is keen to learn as much as he can at Titans and push for a Hostplus Cup debut next year, with his longer-term goal to play alongside Tino in the NRL. 

"It's good for me to learn off the other boys," Fa'asuamaleaui said, adding he was learning plenty from Maroons prop Moeaki Fotuaika.

"Moey is such a good player and hard worker... if I can base my game off him and do what he does, that will definitely help my game out. 

"Cup is the goal. That was my goal this year but obviously it's a hard push when you've got Luke Page and people like him in the team. 

"I'm definitely looking to play in Cup next year and see how I go... I've just got to train hard first.

"Obviously one day I would love to put the Titans jersey on and run out with Tino, but I'm just going to take it slow and go footstep by footstep and see how it goes."
