Round 16 Team of the Week: Donovan delivers for Devils

The pointy end of the Intrust Super Cup season is here and players are stepping up to show off their skills, pushing for finals berths, and certainly putting on a show for spectators. 

Norths Devils talent Bryce Donovan returned to the field in style, playing a pivotal role in his side's Round 16 win over Wynnum Manly Seagulls, earning himself the Hastings Deering player of the match gong and skipper honours for the Round 16 Team of the Week.

Each round, Queensland Rugby League recognises the 17 best performers and name the Intrust Super Cup Team of the Week. These team selections are based not only on statistical data, but also take on board live and broadcast viewings of the games, with the standout performer of the week named captain. 

Round 16 Team of the Week

1. Edwin Ipape - PNG Hunters

The Hunters fullback was a standout for his side during their 22-20 win over Central Queensland Capras in Round 16. Ipape scored one try and assisted in another, clocked 116 run metres, made one line break and one line break assist, four tackle breaks and made 29 tackles with a 93.5 per cent tackle efficiency. 

2. Mark Rosendale - Northern Pride

The Pride winger scored a double during his side's 24-16 win over Redcliffe Dolphins in Round 16. Rosendale also clocked 83 run metres, had the most line breaks for the Pride with two and made one tackle break.

3. Treymain Spry - Tweed Seagulls

The Gold Coast centre was impressive, as always. Spry scored two tries, had the most line breaks for the Seagulls with two, clocked 104 run metres, had one line break assist, nine tackle breaks and made eight tackles, missing none. 

4. Isaiah Tass - Souths Logan Magpies

The Brisbane Broncos-contracted centre scored one try, assisted in one try, clocked a huge 232 run metres, including 79-post-contact, made one tackle break and 16 tackles during the Magpies' fiery draw with Brisbane Tigers. Tigers' Kea Pere was also impressive, scoring two tries. 

5. Jedidiah Simbiken - Central Queensland Capras

The Capras winger, who has scored 11 tries in 27 Cup appearances, was a standout for his side in Round 16. Simbiken scored two tries, clocked 120 run metres, made one line break, one tackle break and made 11 tackles. PNG Hunters winger Solo Wane and Mackay Cutters wingers Laitia Moceidreke were also impressive, both scoring doubles. 

6. Gerome Burns - Ipswich Jets 

The Jets five-eighth was on fire in Round 16. He scored two tries, assisted in one try, kicked one conversion, clocked 86 run metres and made three tackle breaks during his side's 36-26 loss to Mackay Cutters.

7. Bryce Donovan - Norths Devils (C)

The Devils half was instrumental during his side's 24-16 win over Wynnum Manly Seagulls in Round 16. During the top-of-the-table clash, Donovan - returning from a knee injury - scored one try, clocked 116 run metres, assisted in two tries, had two line break assists, made one tackle break and made 10 tackles to earn himself the Hastings Deering player of the match honours. Northern Pride half Evan Child was also impressive with one try, 160 run metres, two line breaks, one line break assist, one try assist and 21 tackles.

8. Luke Page - Burleigh Bears 

Page, during his 44 minutes on the field, was phenomenal. The Bears impact player scored one try, clocked 150 run metres, made one line break, seven tackle breaks and 26 tackles. DJ Moey Fresh never disappoints.

9. Christian Hazard - Souths Logan Magpies

Hazard, who was part of the XXXX Queensland Residents side in 2019, was a standout for the Magpies during their 26-26 draw with Brisbane Tigers. The talented hooker assisted in two tries, made one line break, two tackle breaks and made the most tackles for his side with a huge 42 efforts.

10. Patrice Siolo - Sunshine Coast Falcons

The Falcons prop, during his 62 minutes on the field, clocked the most run metres for his side with 196, including 84 post-contact, and made the most tackles with a whopping 43. 

11. Lachlan Timm - Redcliffe Dolphins

The Dolphins prop has been a consistent performer for the Dolphins this season. Timm, in Round 16, clocked the most run metres for the Dolphins with 198 during his 57 minutes on the field, including 62 post-contact, made four tackle breaks and 32 tackles.

12. Mitch Frei - Brisbane Tigers

Tigers second rower Frei was a force during his side's 26-26 draw with Souths Logan. Frei scored one try, clocked the most run metres for his side with 195, including 60 post-contact, made two line breaks, three tackle breaks and made 30 tackles. The Capras' Nixon Putt was also impressive.

13. Corey Jensen - Townsville Blackhawks

The Cowboys-contracted talent, who has signed with the Brisbane Broncos for season 2022, was a solid performer for the Blackhawks at Pizzey Park against Tweed Seagulls at the weekend. During his 53 minutes on the field, the 2019 XXXX Queensland Residents weapon clocked 192 run metres, made four tackle breaks and 21 tackles.

14. Tristan Hope - Wynnum Manly Seagulls

The Wynnum Manly talent, who was outstanding for his side during last week's Round 19 clash with Sunshine Coast Falcons, backed that up with another stellar performance at the weekend. Hope made a huge 42 tackles with 100 per cent tackle efficiency, and clocked 79 run metres. 

15. Adam Cook - Mackay Cutters

The Cutters halfback was extremely handy during his side's 36-26 win over Ipswich Jets. Cook scored one try, assisted in three tries, made one line break, one line break assist, three tackle breaks and 15 tackles.

16. Michael Molo - Norths Devils

Molo was superb for the ladder leaders in Round 16. The Devils prop, during his 60 minutes on the field, made the most run metres for his side with 171 and made the most tackles with 32.

17. Delouise Hoeter - Wynnum Manly Seagulls

The flashy Wynnum Manly centre, who has signed a train-and-trial contract with the Broncos, scored one impressive try, clocked the most run metres for his side with 143, had the most line breaks with one, made three tackle breaks and 15 tackles.
