Devils and Capras fight to keep finals hopes alive

The Devils last posted a win against the Western Mustangs in Round 8 of competition, where the Devils were too good in their 60-0 victory against the young team.

Since then, the Devils haven’t tallied another win, coming away from the next three rounds with two losses and one draw.

Devils winger Lodoviko Cokanauto will be one to watch and currently sits at the top of the leader board for try scorers in the competition, boasting 12 tries this season.

Their opposition this weekend, the Capras, have a win/loss record which has been a seesawing affair in recent rounds.

In Round 11 of the competition, the Capras went down to Mackay Cutters, with the final score showing a 38-point difference in the 54-16 result.

However, in their last game they played - Round 10's postponed game - it was a different story for the Central Queensland team who fired to win against Brisbane Tigers.

The Capras will be hoping to repeat their dominant performance from Rugby Park, Rockhampton where halfback Peyton Jenkins scored a hat-trick and kicked seven from eight conversions.

This weekend, the competition will join the Intrust Super Cup in recognising the importance of mental health and wellbeing with Turn To Me Round; all players will sport blue socks to represent a “clearing of the skies” in support of the cause.

Elsewhere in the competition in Round 16, Western Mustangs will go up against seventh-placed Souths Logan Magpies. The home side have had a rough trot this season, boasting only one win, but will fight hard against the Magpies.

Souths Logan will be looking to prove their experience in this match as they make their way to Highfields on Saturday and look to add another tally to their win column.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls have won all but two games this season and will look to lock in this year's minor premiership by adding another win to their tally.

They have been in fine form recently and sit three-points clear of the second-placed Tigers.

With four players on the leading try scorers list this season, their match against the Sunshine Coast Falcons is set to be a doozy as the teams battle it out to secure the win for their side.

Ninth-placed Burleigh Bears have lost more than they have won this season, but still boast a strong side and will be hard for their opponents the Ipswich Jets to overcome.

Cameron Brown has proven to be an asset to the Bears this season and will aim add to his points tally as the Bearsvhead to North Ipswich Reserve this Saturday.

Up north, Mackay Cutters will host the Townsville Blackhawks in a twilight derby at BB Print Stadium.

With both teams sitting at five losses for the season, the competition is set to be stiff.

Blackhawks fullback Dylan White and Mackay Cutters half Henri Stocks are expected to be in amongst the points for their teams, while Mitch Fogarty and Jordan Lipp will be relied upon by the visiting team to continue their try scoring success.

Northern Pride emerged from their last round with a win and will host the sixth-placed Tweed Seagulls on Saturday.

The visiting Seagulls have won seven matches this year and will want to be in good form to play well in the finals.

In the last game of the a super Saturday of matches, Redcliffe Dolphins will host Brisbane Tigers at Moreton Daily Stadium.

The Tigers sit two points above the fourth-placed Redcliffe team on this season’s ladder and will be riding the momentum from their win in last round’s competition.

Kiu Nuku-Ngala (Dolphins) and Ronald Philitoga (Tigers) will lead the charge to score tries for their teams, with Nuku-Ngala sitting only one try behind Philitoga on the leading try scorers board.
