Having grown up in Dalby, Carl Webb played most of his junior rugby league for the Dalby Devils.
The former Maroons legend and Devils junior was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year and established the Carl Webb Foundation to raise awareness and much-needed funds to combat the rare condition.
It is no wonder the Dalby Devils junior club dug deep to support the foundation at its exhibition round two weeks ago.
Dalby president Tim Hart said the 2020 and 2021 club captains and vice-captains attended the Carl Webb Foundation launch in November last year and were inspired by the local Origin star’s selflessness despite him doing it tough.
“They got right behind the cause, took charge of organising the fundraising and designed special jerseys for the occasion,” Hart said.
In its eighth edition, this year’s charity day saw the Devils take on Souths Tigers at the very ground Webb kick-started his professional rugby league career.
The Devils fundraised through sausage sizzles, bake sales, raffles, Calcutta auctions and half of the gate ticket costs from the charity day.
The Devils showed excellent community spirit resulting in an impressive $12,656 raised for the FOG #124's foundation.
The event was a resounding success for the club, with Webb in attendance and the Devils able to present him with one of the specially designed jerseys.
Hart thanked the local rugby league community for their support.
“I would like to particularly acknowledge the under 16 coaching and management staff for helping the young men gain some valuable life lessons,” Hart said.
He also commended the under 16 team for their leadership and generosity.
