The Longreach / Ilfracombe Tigers are through to the Central West grand final after defeating the Blackall Magpies at the weekend to be the first team through to the big dance.

Originally playing as two clubs in previous years (Longreach Tigers and Ilfracombe Scorpions), the two combined together to continue the greatest game of all in both rugby league-mad communities and the initiative has worked a treat, earning the right to host Central West's big day on July 10.

Blackall and Barcaldine will play off this coming weekend to decide who will face off against the Tigers in Ilfracombe on Saturday week.

Brisbane Premier A Grade

The Brighton Roosters continue to cause havoc at their home fortress of Jim Lawrie Oval with a 42-20 win over Pine Rivers in Round 11 of the BRL Premier A Grade competition.

Since Round 6 when they got their first win for the season over Carina 44-18 at home, the Roosters tormented the Hounds in Round 8 to only go down by a point, 23-22 and last week falling short 28-22 to the defending premiers, Wynnum Manly.

The tri-colours led 24-8 at half-time and maintained that form in the second half. Joshua Cooper posted a treble of tries to move the Roosters within six points of the top five.

Beenleigh and Carina were both on 16 points on the competition ladder heading into the round and a it was a toss of the coin for punters as to who would take the three points.

After the full-time whistle, both sides remain locked together still, after an 18-18 draw at Bill Norris Oval with both sides scoring three converted tries.

Normanby were at home to the Bulimba Bulldogs and the visitors brought some mongrel to dogfight at Bert St Clair.

Bulimba led at the break 14-10 and with 23 minutes remaining were down by only four points before Normanby pulled away with a hard fought 34-22 win to remain undefeated.

Coach Michael Lambert was proud of his 17.

"I am so gutted for our group because the boys really worked their backsides off today, and with injuries throughout squad, all my Bulimba boys stepped up," Lambert said, post-match.

It was tipped, and always had been, that any encounter between the West Brisbane Panthers and Valleys Diehards would be an epic contest.

Both sides like nothing better than coming up against each other to respectfully take the bragging rights.

The Panthers were at home to Valleys and got away to a flyer, leading 22-4 midway through the first half to go to the sheds just ahead 24-16.

The victory was for either side to take and despite both sides crossing seven times, conversions proved the difference as boys in royal blue claimed their second win of the season against their foes 40-34.

Bundaberg Broadcasters Premiership

Contributed by QRL Bundaberg correspondent Vince Habermann

The return of electrifying five-eighth Caleb Tull and having vintage veterans and brothers Dan and Josh Tanner playing in tandem for the first time in five matches, were pivotal as Wests Panthers got back on track in the Bundaberg Broadcasters A Grade Premiership with a 20-12 victory over a brave Past Brothers on a cold and wet afternoon at Salter Oval on Saturday.

The Panthers had lost three of their previous four matches and were forced to dig deep after the depleted defending premiers led 12-6 at half-time and kept competing strongly throughout.

But Wests scored an unanswered 14 points in the second half to notch their third triumph against their arch-rivals in three clashes this season and also remain within three points of leaders Easts Magpies with four rounds to go.

The Magpies however continued on their winning ways, posting their sixth-straight victory with a 22-6 dispatch of hosts Wallaroos at Eskdale Park, Maryborough; while in the late match at Salter Oval, Waves Tigers struck a crucial blow in the race for a finals berth, moving to outright fifth position, two points clear of Wallaroos, with a hard-fought 22-12 triumph over Hervey Bay Seagulls.

Tull - who is dual-registered with Wests and Central Queensland Capras - had been in great form in the Intrust Super Cup, but with the statewide competition having a break for the weekend, he returned to Panther-land for the first time since April 24, and while his brilliance was dulled by the conditions, his and the Tanner brothers’ presence were the factors that got them home.

Easts are still in the box seat to claim the minor premiership, but depending on the duo’s other results over the next three weeks, it could come down to Wests’ last-round showdown with them on July 24 to decide the title. Although, the Magpies would have to also lose another game, while the Panthers would have to win their next three to stay in the hunt for top spot.

The Magpies however look unstoppable in their current form, and they were again clinical on Saturday, securing the two points with doubles to their two former BRL leading try scorer winners, wing flyer Billy Stefaniuk and powerhouse centre Trent Seeds, and a try to their current BRL A Grade player of the year Matt Craven, who increased his lead in this year’s leading try scorer.

For Roos, it was their third-straight home defeat, and they now look to have the job in front of them to avoid the wooden spoon.

Waves made it back-to-back wins with fullback Layton Chambers a match-winner, continuing his superb form with 10 points from one try and three goals in a signature robust all-round display.

Despite their loss, Hervey Bay remain in third place on 11 points, one in front of Brothers, and they could lay claim to a top three finish, a qualifying final berth and a guaranteed second-chance in the play-offs, when they host the Brethren at Stafford Park this Saturday.

Round 11 results

Wests Panthers 20 (Jensen Deamer, Gage Laird, Caleb Tull, Shaun Ezzy tries; Chris Robinson 2 goals) defeated Past Brothers 12 (Brendan Stewart, Aaron Hall tries; Zak Bainbridge 2 goals).
