The first day of the combined 15 and 18 Years State Championships in Cairns yesterday provided some exceptionally high quality rugby league by girls who are taking part from all over Queensland.
With the return of the representative program in 2021, the Queensland Schools Rugby League committee will be in a position to pick two high-quality merit sides on Sunday at the end of the carnival.

In the 15 Years age group, there were impressive performances from both of the Metropolitan East teams who now play each other in an effort to progress to the semi-finals on Saturday.
Peninsula will also be in with a strong chance of progressing in their home carnival, with a strong local support base cheering the girls.
Day one of the 18 Years competition was dominated by the strong performance from South Coast.
After a strong initial period the outstanding ball movement, the combinations within the team overpowered a brave Metropolitan North team in a stand out performance.
Day two today provides a great opportunity for all girls to continue to build on the performances of the opening day.
The carnival runs through to Sunday at Barlow Park in Cairns.
