Fans on the Sunshine Coast will get a glimpse of their favourite Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons players just days out from the Ampol State of Origin women’s match against New South Wales.
With the annual clash against NSW now officially locked in for Sunshine Coast Stadium on Friday, June 25, the QRL is pleased to confirm the Maroons will take part in the Harvey Norman fan day and clinic on June 20 at Mooloolaba Beach.
Commencing at 1pm, the event will offer three hours of family fun, with the stars of the female game to run a coaching clinic for kids and sign autographs for fans.
Maroons coach Tahnee Norris said the event would provide a great opportunity to give back to rugby league supporters.
“This will be my first fan day as coach of the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons so I’m excited to interact and engage with our supporters leading up to such an important event on our calendar,” Norris said.
“We know how passionate Queenslanders are about rugby league and with the day being scheduled so close to our clash with NSW, we will certainly be using their energy to give us a nice little lift heading into the final few days of our preparation.”
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said the women’s sport landscape had changed significantly in recent years and council was proud to be a leader nationally in promoting opportunities for women and girls in sport.
“Sunshine Coast Council continues to strongly back participation in women’s sport - whether it be through upgrading of sport and recreation facilities across the region or hosting the Women’s State of Origin," Jamieson said.
"We’re delighted to host the state’s top rugby league players at our Sunshine Coast Stadium, and we encourage everyone on the Coast to get behind our Maroons."
The family-friendly day will embrace a festival atmosphere, with a DJ and face painter present to entertain fans.
Activations from QRL partners Harvey Norman, Shell, P&O, Auswide Bank, McDonald's, Deadly Choices and Nova will add to the action, while Queensland fans can get into the spirit by snapping up the latest merchandise from Rebel Sport.
