Defending premiers Burleigh Bears head into the 2021 season with some big shoes to fill, after star halfback Jamal Fogarty was signed up by Gold Coast Titans last year.
The 2019 Petero Civoniceva Medal winner has subsequently been named as co-captain of the NRL club in a fitting reward for his talent and standing in the game both on the off the field.
Despite this key loss, the Bears have for the most part retained many of the key personnel who helped frame their success, with coach Rick Stone adding to his squad with important signings.
Exciting half Guy Hamilton has moved across from Souths Logan Magpies after helping steer Runaway Bay to the QTOP Gold Coast A Grade title last year.
Former Tweed Seagulls skipper John Palavi has switched over to join with the Bears this season and will be a key forward presence for the team; as will NRL experienced prop Lloyd Perrett who was on the books at Wynnum Manly Seagulls last season.
The Burleigh Bears will travel to Davies Park Sunday to take on Souths Logan Magpies in their Round 1 fixture.
