Queensland Maroons players were assessed by the team’s medical staff after returning to the Gold Coast following last night’s 18-14 win over New South Wales.
AJ Brimson and centre Kurt Capewell were both sent for scans while the rest of the players involved in the Adelaide Oval clash commenced their recovery sessions.
Team doctor Matt Hislop said Brimson injured his left foot late in the game.
“Scans confirmed a lisfranc ligament injury which will rule AJ out of the rest of the series,” Hislop said.
“A specialist surgeon has been consulted and initial advice is for him to remain in camp.”
Brimson said he was devastated by the news but backed his teammates to get the job done.
“I was stoked to make my Origin debut and to get the win was an incredible feeling,” Brimson said.
“I’ve got great belief in the squad and we’re really well placed to go on and win the series.”
The outlook is much better for Capewell, who experienced groin tightness leading into his debut.
“Kurt aggravated his symptoms during the game, however his scans today are reassuring,” Hislop said.
“We anticipate he will respond to further treatment and be available for Game II.”
