Queensland Rugby League managing director Robert Moore has congratulated Andrew Abdo on his appointment as chief executive officer of the National Rugby League.

“We view Andrew’s appointment as a positive one for the game, particularly because of his broad interest in the whole of the game,” Moore said.

“We have always enjoyed a healthy working relationship with Andrew over the years and this appointment is another step forward now as we strive to set the game up for the future.”

Abdo, who was appointed interim CEO in April, joined the NRL in 2013 and most recently served as chief commercial officer.

His appointment was confirmed by the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) today.

ARLC chairman Peter V’landys AM said Abdo had impressed the Commission with the way he had guided the game through the COVID-19 pandemic and driving the NRL’s commercial growth in previous years.
