Queensland Rugby League managing director Robert Moore has congratulated independent director Renita Garard OAM on her latest recognition within the Australian Honours and Awards.
Garard was yesterday bestowed with a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to hockey at the elite level, and to the community of Townsville.
“Renita is most deserving of this prestigious award, which is a further reflection of the quality of our people here at the QRL,” Moore said.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have a person of Renita’s calibre working with our organisation, as she brings a strong professional background and intimate knowledge of elite sport.”
A dual Olympic gold medallist, Garard was a member of the Australian women’s hockey team from 1993 to 2000.
Off the sporting field, Garard has fulfilled board roles with both the International Hockey Federation and Hockey Australia.
She is currently a director with international consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, board chair of the Port of Townsville Limited, and a director of the 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation Limited.
Garard was the inaugural chair of the QRL’s People and Culture Committee and is currently the chair of the QRL Audit and Risk Committee.
In addition to Garard’s achievement, Moore was pleased to see Bruno Cullen and Rebecca Frizelle on the Queen’s Birthday 2020 Honours List released yesterday.
Cullen was awarded an AM for significant service to the banking and credit union sector, to rugby league, and to the community, while Frizelle was recognised with an OAM for her service to the automotive sector, and to rugby league.
