Intrust Super Cup premiers the Burleigh Bears and ISC finalists Tweed Seagulls will remain a part of the Gold Coast Titans family after agreeing to an extension of the clubs’ affiliation agreement until the end of 2022.
The agreement ensures that a major component of the Titans’ NRL development pathway remains intact, with the best juniors produced in the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region able to reach the game’s elite level without ever leaving their own community.
“The renewal of the affiliation agreement with the Bears and Seagulls is fundamental to the future success of the Titans, and for rugby league on the Gold Coast,” said Titans Chief Executive Steve Mitchell.
“The outstanding work both clubs do around player development, football education and inclusiveness with their fantastic women’s rugby league programs provide a tremendous foundation for the Titans to build on to become an NRL powerhouse.
“In return, the Titans offer that pathway and opportunity for players, coaches and officials who excel in their roles to graduate to the NRL where they can meet their full potential.
“I make special mention of the coaches and administrators there as well as players. While we often see players move back and forth between ISC and NRL, it is important to remember that the Titans exist to offer elite-level opportunities to everyone in rugby league in the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region.
“We have seen that in action this year with Jimmy Lenihan moving up to become an assistant coach of our NRL side after a successful stint as coach of the Burleigh Bears.
“Our affiliation with Burleigh and Tweed ensures those opportunities and pathways for everyone involved in the game in our region and catchment areas remain.”
