Under 6 players in Cairns to benefit from new head gear

Under 6 players who sign on to play in the Cairns and District Junior Rugby League next season will be looking like mini JTs, with the League aiming to give away free head gear to new players.

Cairns and District Rugby League secretary and operations manager Pat Bailey was successful in securing a $6930 from the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund, with the money used to purchase more than 200 new head guards.

Bailey said it was her aim is to give away a free head guard to Under 6 players from Innisfail Brothers, Tully, Eacham and clubs in Cairns District Rugby League who register to play in 2020 season.

"I believe if we can get kids used to wearing head guards at a young age, then they are more likely to wear them for the rest of their time playing our great game," Bailey said.
