Griffith Dragons aim to bring down the Hounds

The Griffith Dragons will aim to stop the University of Queensland’s two-year run as the state’s best student rugby league team tonight.

The Dragons will go into the match at Davies Park as favourites after ripping through the preliminary rounds of the Universities Rugby League Queensland competition undefeated.

They have some wonderful experience at their disposal with players like former Intrust Super Cup player Paul Ivan and clever half Joe Bond.

Bond missed the Dragons’ semi-final victory over the Griffith Logan Redbacks last week with concussion and is not yet ensured of playing tonight.

While the Dragons have been flawless this past year, the UQ Hounds’ recent success will give them some confidence.

They showed their mettle last week to come from behind to win a tight semi-final against the Queensland University of Technology 18-16, with hooker Jesse Domic guiding them to victory.

Adding to their motivation, the Hounds won the 2017 and 2018 URLQ grand finals, including last year’s decider with a try in the final minute of the contest.

That win came against tonight’s opponent, the very same Griffith Dragons.

It looks like the Dragons also have some real motivation of their own.
