Cairns Brothers Rugby League Club took advantage of their bye weekend by holding the Cate Dunbar Memorial Cup barefoot bowls night at West Cairns Bowls Club last Friday.
Teams from A grade, reserve grade, along with members of Cairns Brothers Old Boys (BOBS), Cairns Brothers committee members and officials took to the green for the annual Cate Dunbar Memorial Cup.
This social night of bowls is every year in honour of one of the long-time volunteers at Cairns Brothers, Cate Dunbar, who after a very long battle with illness sadly passed away three years ago.
Cate Dunbar was a lady who went beyond her normal volunteer duties to be the club's head First Aid Officer, and was highly respected by all players and officials who came into contact with her.
Cate who was born in Cairns and went on to become a hairdresser after leaving school.
After moving around the state, she finally settled back in Cairns after gaining much experience in not only first aid duties, but the overall general administration requirements of rugby league.
Cate is survived by her husband Tom, two children and several grandchildren.
One of her sons, Calan Dunbar, is a current member of Cairns Brothers A grade team.
This year's winning team was made up of long term Brothers footballer and coach Stan Williams, his grandson Kristian Williams, club legend Ross Brown and committee member Barry Skinner.
