Dearden out five weeks, Glenn, Ofahengaue also hobbled

TOM Dearden will have surgery on his ankle tomorrow after scans revealed a syndesmosis injury today.

And second rower Alex Glenn will also be missing for Saturday’s game against the Parramatta Eels in Sydney.

Dearden left the field in the sixth minute of yesterday game against the Titans after going over on his joint.

The 18-year-old will be operated on tomorrow and faces a lengthy period out to rehabilitate the injury.

“He will have surgery tomorrow,” said Broncos’ Head of Performance Paul Devlin.

“He has syndesmosis and they will stabilise that tomorrow.

“It is a fairly sensible rehab time of five weeks plus, but he is an 18-year player so we will take maximum caution with that.

“They have been pushing that ‘return to play’ down from the 10-week period.

“People have been getting them down – I think Daly Cherry-Evans got it down to five and-a-half week, which is pretty impressive.

“But he is a young player so we won’t be putting any pressure on him in that regard and we will do what is best for him in that regard.”

Meanwhile, Glenn suffered a medial collateral ligament injury in his 250th NRL game yesterday.

He will be out against the Eels on Saturday but with the representative weekend bye to follow that, should be available for the Broncos’ next fixture.

In other injury news, Joe Ofahengaue visited the surgeon today and his badly-lacerated knee is healing nicely.

There does not seem to be any sign of infection.

Ofahengaue will not be available for Saturday’s game, but if things continue to progress he is expected to be available for the match against the Newcastle Knights on June 29.
