A Suncorp Stadium showdown with his former club could be just the tonic Ash Taylor needs to inject some much-needed confidence and help to turn the Titans' season around on Sunday.
Denied a heart-stopping win against the Cowboys in round 12, Gold Coast round the halfway mark of the season sharing the foot of the ladder with the Bulldogs with just three wins to their name.
Given a chance to level the scores with six minutes to play against the Cowboys, Taylor stepped aside to let captain Tyrone Roberts take the shot at penalty goal, a shot that missed to the right of the posts.
It was the latest indicator that a prodigiously talented halfback is fighting for confidence but a date with 'big brother' Brisbane could inspire the 24-year-old to emerge from his slump.

When Jarrod Wallace lined up against his former club for the first time in round seven, 2017 he ran for 264 metres in a 73-minute performance and he hopes playing against the team where he made his NRL debut will have a similar effect on Taylor.
"Everyone loves playing their old club. I know I'll be looking forward to it," said Wallace, who has run for 199, 201 and 210 metres in his past three games.
"Everyone likes playing at Suncorp whether you used to be at the Broncos or not but there's always a bit more feeling when you've got Keegan [Hipgrave], [Dale] Copley, Ash, Jai [Arrow], we've all come from there.
"Ash is getting better and better every week, the confidence that comes with playing more footy and he and Tyrone have played a few games together now in a row."
Winger Anthony Don plays outside Taylor on the right side of the Titans' attack and believes it won't be just the No.7 who revels in playing at the Broncos' home ground.
The Titans have won two of their past four games played at Suncorp – including a 26-14 win over Brisbane last year – and Don hopes that they can draw again on the atmosphere generated at the iconic 'Cauldron'.
"He's getting better week on week. Just like everyone there are areas in his game and areas in my game I need to improve on," Don said of Taylor.
"We've played all right the last couple of times we've been up to Suncorp.
"I think it's good for everyone.
"The Broncos are on the improve and got a big, young pack and getting better and better every week so we know it's going to be an enormous challenge."
Successful at Suncorp last year, the Titans have lost their past two games at home to the Broncos by a combined 88-0, providing a sting to Gold Coast fans that takes a long time to subside.
Wallace has experienced both sides of the rivalry and knows it is time to start balancing the ledger.
"I definitely always looked at it as though we were the dominant team and I think that's from the legacy that the Broncos built over the last few years," said Wallace, who won all six games he played against the Titans whilst at the Broncos.
"We've got a chance to change that now. We took a step forward in getting them once last year and we don't want to be the little brother anymore to the Cowboys and the Broncos, especially not the Broncos.
"To lose against them up there you probably hear about it a bit more and there's a bit more feeling when there's a Queensland derby.
"I look at it now as more of a challenge and more of a rivalry coming from there."
